Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does an executive function/parent coach do?
An executive function and parent coach is a supportive guide who walks alongside you through the challenges facing kids and families. A coach listens to your struggles, offers practical ideas and helps you find more ways to feel balanced and find deeper connection to your child. It's not about judgment, it's about giving you tools and confidence to handle whatever's on your plate.
I'm feeling overwhelmed, can an executive function/parent coach help with that?
Absolutely. If parents feel like it's too much right now, a coach can help you sort through the chaos. We'll break things down into organized, prioritized, manageable steps, so everyone at home can catch their breath and have more clarity.
My child's behavior is really challenging. Is this something an executive function/parent coach can handle?
Yes, that's one of the big reasons parents reach out. Struggling with a challenging child can be exhausting and isolating, and often a side effect due to the child's lack of effective functioning skills. We will explore what's driving their behavior and share strategies that fit your family, and work on rediscovering that balance within your family unit.
I feel like I'm failing as a parent. Why would a coach make a difference?
You're not failing, you're just in a tough spot, and that's okay. A coach isn't here to fix you, I'm here to remind you and your children of your strengths and help you get back on track. Think of it as a conversation with someone who understands, and will offer fresh ideas and encouragement when you need it most.
Can't I just read a parenting book or ask a friend instead?
Books and friends are great, but they don't always see your unique situation. A coach gives you personalized support - someone who listens to your story, understands your child's challenges, and tailors ideas just for you. It's like having a teammate who's all in on helping you feel focused and capable.
I'm worried I'll feel judged. Will a coach criticize how I parent?
Not at all! Finding a pathway for your potential means we start where you are-no blame, no shame. I know parenting is hard, especially with a challenging child, and I'm here to lift you up, not tear you down. It's a safe space to talk and find solutions together.
How does an executive function/parent coach help me find clarity and stronger connection with my child?
When we establish clarity and focus we can rediscover connections with our children, which is at the heart of what a parent coach does. We'll look at what's creating the stress or tough behaviors-and find small, doable ways to bridge the gap.
I feel so alone in this. Can a coach really change that?
Yes, and I hear this a lot. Parenting can be challenging and overwhelming, especially when faced with executive functioning obstacles. This can make you feel cut off from everyone else, but you don't have to stay there. A coach is your partner in this-someone to share the load, bounce ideas off of, and remind you that you're not the only one struggling. You'll feel seen and supported.
What if I don't know where to start?
You don't have to. That's the beauty of a coach-I'll meet you right where you are, even if it's just "I'm overwhelmed and stuck." We'll figure out the first step together.
How do I know if I need an executive/parent coach?
If you're feeling stuck, stressed or overwhelmed-and you want things to feel better-then a coach could be the support you're looking for. If you're longing for hope, ideas or just someone to say "I get it", that's reason enough to reach out.
